“The true independence for Ukraine is famine, so Ukrainians must make their choice between independence and wealth,” the leader of the Ukrainian Fraternity Party Dmitry Korchinsky said in an interview to a REGNUM correspondent commenting on the Independence Day.
He believes that at the current stage, existence of a fully independent state of Ukraine us practically impossible. “The wealth now depends on how many governing functions we are ready to hand over to supra-national institutions and whether we will be able to sacrifice some powers in favor of the European Parliament or the World Trade Organization,” the Fraternity leader reports.
He also noted that most Ukrainians are indifferent about the concept of state independence. “In 1991, they [the people] could not comprehend a lot, they had a lot of illusions, they were living in memories of the previous historical age that started in the middle of the 18th century and ended in 1860s. They believed that the questions of sovereignty were similar to questions of wealth. It is the core of the liberal theory, but the liberalism came to an end apparently because now the concept of sovereignty contradicts the concept of wealth. And most people choose wealth,” Korchinsky concluded.
The European Commission for Foreign Relations, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, asked Ukraine to give up visa requirements for Romanians and Bulgarians, in order to help the adoption of the special visa regime between the European Union and Kiev, according to Mediafax, quoting the Ukrainian News Agency online.
The commissioner added however that the EU is not conditioning Ukraine’s accession to the World Trade Organisation on the elimination of visa …

A Ukrainian citizen was killed in an automobile accident on the Antalia-Belek road in Turkey in September 7.
The press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Ministry announced this in a statement, a text of which Ukrainian News obtained.
According to the statement, the Ukrainian citizen worked as a guide for a tourist agency.
His body is scheduled to be sent to Ukraine in a coffin on September 10.
